POSITION SUMMARY



Under moderate supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment, perform educational, technical and logistical duties in support of the academic operation of the industrial design studio.



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES



-Clean all facilities and equipment in order to maintain an orderly and safe environment.

-Maintain equipment in all production shops and labs as needed.

-Supervise student work study and graduate assistant lab monitors and students using equipment.

-Train & supervise student assistants regarding use of all Rapid Prototyping Lab machines, including laser cutters, CNC machines, and 3D printers as well as any computer interfaced production machines and equipment that are added to labs in the future.

-Supervise and train student lab monitors in the photo studio.

-Assist in maintaining AV equipment used in the photo studio and classrooms.

-Oversee usage and maintenance of a variety of equipment and materials used in woodshops, rapid prototyping labs, and photo lab (i.e., saws, sanders, plaster, foam, laser cutters etc.).

-Demonstrate skills/techniques in mold making, casting, cutting, forming, finishing and model making for all materials presently in use in the shop (i.e., wood, plastics, foam, plaster, metal, etc.) to students, faculty and student assistants.

-Perform all other related tasks as assigned.



Some weekend work is required during fall and spring semesters.



This is a Local 153 Grade AA union position with a minimum salary of $39,275.67.



EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS



Education:

B.F.A degree required; M.F.A. or equivalent is preferred.



Experience:

Must have at least 3 years’ experience working with students in a wood/metals/plastic shop. Knowledge of a wide range of tools and techniques in wood, metal and plastic including: mold making, casting, cutting, forming, finishing, model making, etc. required.



Skills:

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills required.

Understanding of computer/machine interfaces (Rapid Prototyping, CNC) and AV equipment highly desirable.
