Beginning Fall 2015 Semester

Assignment: Coordinate the Art Department’s Pre-Credential Program; teach Art Education methods courses to undergraduate Art majors, Liberal Studies majors, and Child Development majors; teach aesthetics and art criticism course to Art majors. The new applicant will be responsible for developing a field experience course for Art Education students that has an intercultural or multicultural focus. Student teacher supervision may be included. Other duties include academic advising; assessing art portfolios of applicants to the Single Subject Teaching Credential program; curriculum development; and community outreach. All Art faculty are expected to maintain a professional research and/or exhibition record; serve on departmental, college, and university committees; facilitate the integration of the University into the cultural life of the community; and to be committed to the cultural enrichment of the Sacramento region.

Education: Earned doctorate in Art Education (by August 2015).

Qualifications:
Minimum of three years (or equivalent) of K-12 teaching experience; active and ongoing research in Art Education and/or creative work as a visual artist; knowledge of contemporary theories in Art Education; knowledge of state and national standards for art education and teaching art in the K-12 schools; familiarity with the application of current and emerging technologies to Art Education; expertise in studio teaching practices; a minimum of two years of experience in teaching college-level courses in Art Education methods; and active membership in professional Art Education organizations at the state and national levels. Applicants also should have teaching experience with diverse populations.

Application materials posted on the Sacramento State jobs website must include: a cover letter that includes a statement about the applicant’s teaching philosophy and scholarly/creative interests; a current curriculum vitae; a list of college courses taught; unofficial copies of academic transcripts (an official transcript of the highest degree earned will be required if the applicant is invited for a campus interview); and the names and full contact information (including e-mail address) of four professional references, at least two of whom can comment on the applicant’s teaching ability.

Supporting materials filed separately using a file-sharing website (e.g., Dropbox.com) must include: 2-3 sample syllabi for college courses taught; a sample of recent scholarship (such as a dissertation chapter, conference paper, or an article accepted for publication), 20 JPG images of the applicant’s own work (if applicable), and 20 JPG images of student work (if available). Organize all support materials by folders. Include a separate document listing the context for all digital images. File size for images should be between 1MB and 3MB. Image dimension should be approximately 2200 x 1700 pixels (within 100 pixels). If media is time based, applicants must provide an abbreviated version (less than 3 minutes). A link to the file-sharing website must be included in the cover letter.
