International Open Call:

Basement Project Space is seeking submissions for:

-Video art works - Which will be screened at Basement Project Space
from the 16th - 26th April 2010


-Research Papers - from Artists and Researchers for a 15-minute paper for
a one-day symposium (20th April) (send an abstract or outline of a research
paper with synopsis, and an A4 page CV to: [email protected]

Statement by the Director:
This event ‘the EYE-KEA project’ is a research initiative to open disscussions concerning video art, web 2.0, Throwaway Culture, and the impact of technology on visual and popular culture.
Screening works by established and emerging video artists who are pushing the elements of video art. And opening further disscussions through a one-day Symposium.
This event has been proposed in order to discuss and define what is currently happening to visual culture in light of technological advances which are changing the way we relate to and interact with culture.
Looking at the implications of remix culture, as represented or researched by video artists who analize the social and cultural changes brought about by the digital & cultural revoultion, through their art practice.
‘the EYE-KEA project’ seeks to facilitate an exhange of ideas by bringing together a broad range of artists and researchers with expertise and interest in a wide range of related topics, in order to open debate and discussion.

Criterion:
We are looking for

-Video Art works with a maximum duration of 5 minutes.
-Research Papers for a 15min duration (by artists and researchers)

Preference will be given to video works and Research Papers, which relate to the following topics:

Remix culture, copyright, YouTube, privacy, appropriation, participatory culture, humor, parody, popular culture, re-enactments, reproductions, throwaway culture (throwaway video) and video art, impacts of visual culture.

New definitions are needed by artists and researchers to express how our fast paced lifestyles are reflected within or informed by the visual culture we produce and consume.
The EYE-KEA project is an attempt to correlate research concerning these issues.

Examples of Video Methods, which we would encourage but not restricted to:

Videos made in a low-tech manner, Video pieces shot with mobile phones, Sweded films.
The accepted Maximum duration is 5min for all submitted videos (longer works may be considered, depending on quality and relevance) One video per submission


Examples of Research Papers, which we would encourage:

Papers are sought from anyone interested in expressing related ideas.
Examples of topics may be:
-Impacts of visual culture on video art
-Impacts of Technological advances on visual culture
-Remix Culture
-Copyright issues related to re-appropriation
-Open source technologies and its impact on how we communicate

Guidelines for Video Art submission:

Please enclose in your application

1. A printed and completed application form (application forms can be obtained on
the blog: www.basementprojectspace.wordpress.com or you can request a word
doc version via e-mail: [email protected])

2. On a separate printed sheet an up-to-date Artist CV one A4 page long.

3. Send a high quality uncompressed Quicktime .mov file on data disc (CD only)
Videos must be PAL and Aspect Ratio 4:3 and if language is other than English
Subtitles must be included in English.

4. On a separate CD and viewable on a MAC
- 1 jpeg still/image of video piece RGB 300dpi
- Artist CV one A4 page (must be word doc)
- Bio (300 word max) (must be word doc)
- Digital version of application form

Video Submissions must be sent by post to:

The deadline for Research Paper submissions is 19th March (applications must arrive on or before stated deadline)

Unfortunately Basement Project Space as of yet is a self-funded venture, which means no funding is available for selected artists or researchers.
The ‘EYE-KEA’ Symposium will be held at Basement Project Space, Cork city.
No funding is available for any participants. If you are selected it will be your own responsibility to pay for travel and accommodation. And any other costs incurred as a result of partaking in ‘the EYE-KEA project’ Symposium.

Will you accept submissions of video previews in the form of youtube addresses?
I'm guessing no, but I thought I'd ask just to be sure.

that would be ideal but because the event will be happening quite soon, we just thought it made more sense to have the video on a CD so if it were accepted we can begin compiling them as soon as possible.
