Cultural Capital

Cultural\_Capital is a distributed artwork: a sour-dough starter that accumulates bacteria and cultural capital from every venue in which it is installed. http://cc.gloriousninth.net

From Saturday 19th September until Thursday 1st October 2009 Cultural Capital was cared for by Ben Hyde at his bakery Trois Petits Pains in St Julien de Jonzy, France. On the eve of Saturday 26th September (when Trois Petits Pains is at its busiest) Ben offered portions of starter to his customers (many of whom are friends). Having translated the work's protocols into French, he offered each of them information about Capital Culturel, (http://cc.gloriousninth.net/capital\_culturel.html); a recipe for Pain au levain de ‘capital culturel’ (http://cc.gloriousninth.net/pain\_au\_levain.html) and the instructions for caring for the starter and passing it on to others.

Documentation of the event can be found at:http://cc.gloriousninth.net/bh\_documentation.html

Trois Petit Pains is a small village bakery making sour-dough bread totally by hand and then baking it in a wood-fired oven.
