With the appearance of free public accessible streaming technologies of Web 2.0 technologies, individuals and groups will have the possibility to participate, experience and manipulate remote events in real time. In the near future telepresence communication systems will be incorporated within everyday life. This phenomena will dramatically transform how we communicate and experience remote environments, cultural events and social interaction.

This workshop/performance aims to create an atmosphere for stimulating interaction and discussion among persons interested in Immersive Telepresence. The workshop will include a presentation by Claudio Rivera-Seguel about recent new media projects of interactive streaming performances such as: OrganiRandom, DigitalChile\_08 and Vision Division.

The workshop will give an overview about different platforms used for immersive telepresence and examine some of their interactive methodologies. It will also introduce the audience to some of the basics of real-time broadcasting and recording techniques in low and high definition streaming. Finally the workshop will offer participants the opportunity to become an active part of the live-performance with artists from Chile and Canada, which aims to promote the web-base relational art project called Bypass2010.

The goal of this workshop is to introduce participants to the basic concepts and techniques of telepresence and to bringing together a group of multidisciplinary creative professionals who are working with or are interested in the different aspects of communication technologies in order to experiment and collaborate in an immersive telepresence interactive environment.
