The New Media program in the School of Film & Media Studies and the Mathematics and Computer Science program in the School of Natural and Social Sciences at Purchase College seek candidates for a full-time, open rank –tenure track Assistant or Associate– position beginning in Fall 2015. Jointly appointed, the successful candidate will teach across new media arts and computer science with an emphasis on computational arts. Specializations could include, but are not limited to, data visualization, social software and mobile media. This position requires an interdisciplinary approach to teaching suitable for students with varied backgrounds. The college is interested in candidates who possess critical and creative approaches to emerging technologies. Teaching will include undergraduate and graduate level courses (a new graduate media arts program in the School of Film & Media Studies is in formation).

Applicants must possess an advanced degree (PhD/MFA) or the professional equivalent with a record that demonstrates expertise and in-depth involvement within the field. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level, or of potential as an effective teacher, is also required.

Successful candidates will demonstrate their commitment to student learning, success, and liberal education.

Teaching responsibilities will include courses that are a combination of foundation classes and upper-level electives. Faculty members are expected to design new courses, at all levels, that serve the two programs and even the wider Purchase student body. Other duties include mentoring upper-level undergraduate and graduate students, academic advising and community service (which encompasses committee work as well as College, School, and Board of Study governance).
