The School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Department of Film, Video, New Media and Animation seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall 2015. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience, teaching, and current professional status.

The department seeks candidates who are practicing artists with strong conceptual and historical grasps of contemporary issues in the field of experimental Media Art. Deeply addressing approaches as diverse as long-form Narrative Cinema to New Media Art, the department is looking for practicing artists who work directly in these fields. Film, Video, New Media, and Animation is committed to alternative forms and theory-practices.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach studio courses in a theory-practice context; to participate in curriculum development and review as well as forms of academic assessment; and to advise undergraduate and graduate students in an interdisciplinary fine arts context.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an active professional creative practice as a practicing artist with a significant exhibition record. The ideal candidate is committed to teaching media production and capable of creating a critical and inventive environment in the classroom. Applicants should be familiar with various methods of production—DIY to industry standards. A minimum of three years teaching experience at the college level is required. Terminal degree required-MFA or Master-level degree. In some cases, an undergraduate degree with commensurate experience will be considered.
