INTRODUCTION TO PROTOOLS

This introductory workshop is geared towards the independent filmmaker with a focus on proper set-up of a ProTools project and is intended for those unfamiliar with the program. Participants will learn the basics of industry standard sound design, using demonstration and hands-on play to explore the program. Workflow will be discussed, beginning with importing audio tracks from the picture edit, editing dialogue, and using sound effects libraries. A short sample scene, to be supplied by the instructor or of the student's own in-progress work, will be sound edited and mixed, applying basic effects. Students will gain an understanding of how to successfully mix audio for their own work. The workshop includes one-on-one time with the instructor, one week of practice time between sessions so that participants can explore some basic hands-on exercises, and concludes with instructor feedback.
