MOIST MEDIA
Deadline: June 30, 2015

Five PhD researchers will be selected to join the I-Node of the Planetary Collegium. The successful applicant will work on a 3-year research sessions and a 2-year writing stage. After successful completion, the researcher will nominated as a Doctor from Plymouth University, UK.
Within a transcultural, transdisciplinary perspective, the Planetary Collegium is concerned with the advancement of emergent forms of art, in the context of telematic, interactive and technoetic media, and their integration with science, technology, and consciousness research.
With a strong foundation in transdisciplinary research, the I-Node aims to produce new knowledge in the context of art with special reference to moist media. In response to the developments in new media art, the term Moist Media was coined by Roy Ascott, the president of the Planetary Collegium, to signal the 21st – century substrate for art; i.e. the integration of silicon-dry computer systems and wet, living biology.

The I-Node is headed by Katerina Karoussos and the research focuses on four topics:

Technoetics, led by Roy Ascott: centered around the technology of consciousness
• Theoria, led by Katerina Karoussos: centered on the state of contemplation
Virtual worlds, , led by Elif Ayiter centered on hybrid methods between art, computing and online learning
Meta-Narrative, led by George Papakonstantinou: centered around the emergence of new architectural spaces through interactive multimedia
