This is a workshop about summoning artistic agency from corporate mythologies and global materials. In the post-studio environment of a shopping mall, artworks will be reproduced from common products and products will be faked. The shamanic sweatshops will follow instructions by artists Andreas Ervik, Angus McCullough, Stephanie Syjuco and Peter Moosgaard. After an introduction in the malls food court, participants will engage in activities such as craft coke brewing, money forgery and production of archaic weapons from waste materials. The workshop makes use of the unique environment our partner Making.Artistic.Technology provides: a shopping mall, functioning as a studio and as a museum. Desired and unexpected results of the sweatshop will directly feed into an exhibition at Lust Gallery, opening on the 3rd of June.

Craft Coke
Andreas Ervik sent instructions on how to brew counterfeit coke in three day forging ritual. Andreas work uses strategies from branding and advertisement, focusing on how patterns of desire and behavior are structured by forces ranging from the co-evolved microorganisms in our bodies to the marketing of contemporary branded products.

Market Manipulations
Stephanie Syjucos project “Market Manipulations (Euro edition)” will be produced without her presence in the sweatshop environment of a running sushi bar. Stephanie is an artist working on 'non-specific product units', involving theories of cargo cults and flows of capital in order to investigate issues of economies and empire.

Neostyrokum
Angus McCullough’s instructions define the production of stone age commodities and weapons from contemporary global materials. Angus’ work investigates physical and conceptual environments to pursue knowledge with observation, material processes and performance.

Cargo Cult Rituals
Peter Moosgaards workshop invites the participants to join a temporary shopping cult that recreates iconic consumer commodities using archaic materials. The techiques of polynesian Cargo Cults are tested in the enviroment of the mall: Wood replicas of flatscreen TV, Smartphones, consumer ceremonials and iPhones made of waste will be hidden in the Media Markt.
