  • Location: Essex Market and LES, 120 Essex St, New York, New York, 10002, US
  • Deadline: May 7 2015 at 6:00PM

LES-based artist seeks visual poets / artists to collaborate in a public art project at Essex Market in the Lower East Side. This is paid work, yes, a poetic miracle.

Dates: May 9th and 30th at the market. Includes prep work and some production in the streets

We will be using my visual poetry app, Poetics, to create visual poems and more generally, channel stories with people flowing through the market.

The project is called Market Poetics, tied to the 75th Anniversary of Essex Market and Lower East Side History Month, both occurring in May, in collaboration with NYEDC and the Artists Alliance.

We will be working within one of the market stalls, also moving in the market and surrounding streets, creating and projecting work as a realtime slideshow on a wall of the market, also online.

May 30th will be a public block party as well so it should be lively.

I’m looking for artists / poets with text, writing and visual skills, particularly photographic, tech savvy, with ability to channel interaction with people into a collaborative compositions of text + image.

Someone from or connected to the Lower East Side is a plus, for channeling local history, language, etc. Fluency in Spanish is also helpful.

For some background, here’s a link to the past artwork / installations leading up to the app software, which is now at version 1.25. It is currently used in over 150 countries, also to teach in schools:

INTERESTED?

Please send a link to your work, a short introduction about your interest and background, and contact information.

One note: an iPhone is required unfortunately, as it’s the sole platform thus far for the app. I can send a code your way to download a copy of the app, to explore how it works.
