Silent Barn is a Bushwick, Brooklyn based space for live performance and exhibition, artist studios and a live/work artist in residency program.

Being the DIY space we are, we have a compulsive need to have art permeating every square inch of our lives. Silent Barn's Artists in Residence are currently on the hunt for visual works, installation works, anything that would engage a shared space with large white walls and soaring ceilings: our three-story stairwell.

Over the past two years, our stairwell has hosted three 2D works, a group exhibition, sound and video installations, musical performances and more. In addition to the dozen artists-in-residence who live, work and volunteer at Silent Barn, the space is used by countless Silent Barn volunteers, friends and the public. We host small concerts in "603 Upstairs", theater practices, potlucks, parties, planning meetings, and all kinds of glorious nonsense. Point being: artworks in these stairwells are highly visible to a lot of fantastic people.

Silent Barn is able to provide access to MFTA for materials + our own stash (hardware, paint, wood, etc.). We are able to provide $200 in honoraria for the work(s). If needed, we can cooperatively seek grant funding for projects. We can lend a hand with install. We will include your work in our online gallery and publicize your work.

We hope to install works in the Winter/Spring of 2015, and the works can be displayed for a minimum of six months (shorter is OK too). Deadline for submissions is April 1. We're flexible with install time.

Here are some photos of the stairwells, apartments upstairs, residents and projects.

If you're interested, email [email protected] with your intention, sample works, and a bio. The current residents will review proposals and get in touch with you for more.
