CAMPOS DE GUTIÉRREZ, MEDELLÍN, CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

For the second session of residencies of 2015, Campos de Gutiérrez will concentrate on developing projects that incorporate ceramic processes. For this period of ten weeks, the Foundation will host a community of artists with different nationalities and disciplines who are interested in processes involving ceramics.

This initiative is part of the MAATI project, a collaborative effort that crosses geographical boundaries and interdisciplinary approaches to develop a regional ceramic culture departing from the traditional knowledge that this medium has to offer. This project aims to develop new platforms of production by revisiting the role of global ancestral craft in contemporary art and design. This ceramic-based collaborative project began in 2012 in the defunct 19th century coffee plantation which is now Campos de Gutiérrez, and has since been repurposed into a cultural space that facilitates interactions between diverse groups, including artists, designers, architects, and anthropologists.

The full ten-week program provides residents with the following:

Studio space with worktables and benches, shelves and storage area, access to equipment such as a 1.5' x 2' electric kiln (approximately), a large Olson downdraft wood-fire kiln, a two-thermocouple pyrometer, an electric ceramic wheel, and a bending wheel;
Access to the Campos de Gutierrez tools (basic carpentry tools, basic gardening tools, chain saw, electric drill, circular saw, amongst others);
Access to the library and Archive;
Lodging in a private furnished room;
WiFi Area
Equipped kitchen (refrigerator, pots and pans, silverware, cups, plates and mugs, blender, and stove);
Part time cleaning and cooking services including laundry service;
Janitorial and maintenance services.
One curated group exhibition at the end of each session including physical space, graphic design, printed invitations, press release, and curatorial text.
The option of giving a talk at an established institution every three-month session including graphic design and press release.F
Interaction with a community of artists selected by a professional jury.

The foundation will select six to eight applicants to participate in this session. Need-based subsidy of the program fee is available, please refer to our applications page for more details.
