The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at the University of Central Florida invites applications for an assistant professor in the studio arts area of sculpture/applied design. The successful candidate will design and deliver courses at the undergraduate level that inspire majors in the following areas of study: sculpture/applied design, studio art, and architecture; teach three courses per semester; conduct scholarly research and service; participate in community life; and maintain regular office hours.

This is a nine-month, tenure-earning position. UCF supports and rewards teaching excellence. Faculty are expected to participate in department and university service including committee work. UCF offers undergraduate BFA and BA degrees as well as an MFA and MA degrees in studio arts. The School of Visual Arts & Design has approximately 2,700 majors across four areas that include architecture, digital media, film, and studio arts. The position anticipated start date is in August 2014, pending the availability of funding.

Minimum: Terminal degree in sculpture, industrial design, or a related field from an accredited institution with emphasis on 3-D output; evidence of competence with a range of shop processes, materials, equipment, maintenance, and technologies; effective communication skills; promising record of creative activity, and teaching experience required.

Preferred: Resourceful, collaborative, versatile 3-D thinker/producer with teaching experience in a diverse visual art and design program at an institution of higher education. Successful candidates will be well versed in traditional and emerging arts/industrial fabrication methods, materials, equipment, and industrial design software; demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills; show a commitment to excellence in lab safety including equipment maintenance, repair, and design; interest in forming partnerships with industry; and a record of diverse and distinctive creative work. Interest in student recruitment/retention, grant writing, and designing or delivering mixed-mode and online courses are also highly valued attributes.
