Expand your typesetting skills and familiarity with letterpress by adding hand- carved and alternative image-making techniques to your work. We’ll explore the versatility of the Vandercook cylinder press, while you develop your own broadside print edition or a collaborative book. We’ll start by creating soft, atmospheric, and textural background forms with Pressure Printing. Then we will layer cut and carved imagery through magnet and linoleum relief techniques. Finally, we will cover more complex or nuanced typesetting to complete your prints with hand-set type. Throughout the class, we will discuss press set-up, operation, and adjustments for each technique, as well as advanced inking and registration, so you have a solid understanding of these varied techniques and how they can work together.
