Triplicate

Triplicate: an evening of interdisciplinary trios by Avant Media artists featuring the New York premiere of Aqua Madora and two world premieres Friday and Saturday May 2-3, 2008 - 8PM - The Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond, NYC

Triplicate represents a cross section of the work Avant Media Performance supports and promotes. The evening features artists from around the country performing live at The Gene Frankel Theatre in Manhattan's NoHo district at 8PM both nights. General admission tickets, on sale April 8, are $20 ($15 for students) presale through avantmedia.org, or $25 ($20) on the day of the performance.

The cornerstone of Triplicate is the New York premiere of Aqua Madora, by Randy Gibson, Ana Baer-Carrillo, and Dani Beauchamp, for just intonation piano, sine wave drones and video dance. Aqua Madora is a defining work in Avant Media's repertoire bringing together the unique talents of these three artists into a cohesive engaging performance. In this latest version, the music is featured most prominently in a dialog between live music and projected dance. The complexly layered score by Randy Gibson, directly influenced by his studies with seminal minimalist visionary La Monte Young, is performed live by the composer. The haunting melodies of the just-intuned piano highlight and underpin the emotional images on screen, as the audience is immersed in the rich harmonic world of the music.

The evening begins with the New York premiere of Kim Olson's Butter Colored Hum for three dancers. Following this will be the world premiere of Shiver by Randy Gibson, Oscar Henriquez and Laine Rettmer. Shiver is a short work for video and dancers that takes advantage of the pure essence of video (projected light) and sound (waves) to elucidate the live dance. Completing the first half of Triplicate is the world premiere of the first act of Mike Rugnetta and Patrick Davison's oratorio Pressure with Jo Lampert as vocalist in this unique performance about the human brain and its ability to deal with huge amounts of simultaneous information. Pressure will be premiered in its full version in Avant Media's 2009-1010 season.
