ScArtlab 2 and 3

ACA is continuing its series of residencies with a further two residencies, ScArtlab 2 and 3. These residencies of up to 2 months duration each, will be happening between January and March 2004.

ACA is interested in hearing from artists wishing to utilise/explore and work in innovative ways with the remote rural environment and community of Allenheads and its surrounding area.

One of the residencies will be offered in partnership with photoNORTH, for which an artist working specifically with photo based practice will be selected. photoNORTH is an initiative supporting photography and photographers in the North East. It has two central aims: commitment to supporting contemporary photography through exhibition, commission and distribution and building a strong regional network for the sector through better information exchange and regular talks and events programmes.

Allenheads village is situated in the North Pennines, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. At 1540 feet it is England's highest village and is at the geographical centre of Britain.

The overall aims of the residencies are:

to develop the artists' work and present results via exhibition, website, presentation/performance or other appropriate means.

to engage with the local environment and community in the research, production and/or presentation of the work. This should be carried out in a manner appropriate to artist, environment and community.

and for the residency in conjunction with photoNORTH, to produce new work using contemporary photo practice with a commitment to a distribution outcome.

ACA will assist the artist in co-ordinating any meetings or events associated with the residency.
