The English, Technical Communication, and Media Arts Department at Southern Polytechnic State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position (other ranks considered) in Communication Design beginning August 2013. The position is contingent on funding being available. SPSU (www.spsu.edu) is a member institution in the University System of Georgia, located 20 minutes northwest of downtown Atlanta, in the historic city of Marietta.

Candidates must have at minimum a terminal MFA in Communication Design, Visual Communication, Media Arts, or a closely related field by the time of appointment; doctorate preferred. Candidates must also have a desire and ability to teach online courses. Preference will be given to candidates with workplace experience and an ability to teach a range of graduate and undergraduate level courses, including print design, web design, data visualization, applied graphics, 2D animation, and multimedia design. Responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours each semester of communication design courses and other courses as appropriate to the candidate’s background; opportunities exist for a 9 credit/semester teaching load for candidates with a doctorate and evidence of a strong research agenda. The new hire will also take part in exploring new degree offerings at the graduate and undergraduate level.
