The human form is a timeless and universal subject of art. It resonates throughout art history and continues to play a key role in contemporary art practice. While arguably all contemporary figurative work is classically rooted in traditional nude figure study, this exhibition aims to explore new approaches to the human body that transcend convention. The subtitle “self and others” references self-portraiture and figure study, but also implies conceptual undercurrents such as identity and the social and sexual politics that affect us all.

LAL has been hosting the NUDE exhibition for twenty-seven years. As the focus of the organization has shifted to representing contemporary art trends, the content of this show has also evolved accordingly. While all work will be considered, we especially encourage submissions that are conceptually based.
