Inspector London call for entries

CALL FOR ENTRIES
deadline 20.10.03

Inspector-London.co.uk is currently inviting artists to submit their
projects/ positions/strategies for inclusion on the stocklist of its UK
shop. Inspector is a European arts project sited on Ebay. It can also be
found at www.inspektor-berlin.de.
Inspector-London seeks a critical engagement with the digital
marketplace. It polemicises the transformation of the relationship
between object and subject, encourages potential dialogue around the
sale and explores the gap between information and reality.
Accepted projects will be displayed online using the existing buy/sell
format of Ebay, i.e. the projects will be presented as sellable goods
and, if applicable, sold. Inspector-London does not promote individual
artists or act as a gallery/agent.
Neither does it enter into conventional money-object
transactions.
To submit please download the submission form from
www.inspector-london.co.uk

Ebay has established itself as the alternative marketplace worldwide and
in so doing created a new exchange process. Goods can only be evaluated
through information /documentation provided by the seller. Actual
physical contact with the object is deferred until the point of
delivery. But rather than the standardised, objectified information
provided by most consumer spaces, such as supermarkets or catalogues,
the shelves of Ebay have been reclaimed by the language and imagery of
the individual.
Inspector-London also recognises how information technologies have
revolutionised the way in which these consumer goods are produced. The
transition of the design process to near exclusive use of information
technologies, such as CAD, combined with Flexible Manufacture systems
has further erased the distance between concept and realisation of
physical objects and changed the ontological perception of material.

Ebay demonstrates the increased significance and potential of
information value.
