Recession and War in Iraq; Special Operations OK'd by Rumsfeld Memo

Wow do we have some enormous problems looming.

If the Dow double-dips too hard we face global depression and war.

If they try to use a new war to prevent depression, as is largely considered
necessary and constitutionally legal under wartime executive powers in the
USA, we will indeed have a US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Preventing a US attack on Iraq, under US law, is impossible. If the Chief
Executive wants it, and he does, we will get it.

The only hope against a US invasion of Iraq is a very complete and unexpected
change in the views of the US electorate and legislators. Only massive
public pacifism in the US could deter a fulfillment of the Iraq Invasion, and
the public is very frightened and eager for war.

Bush will holler about appeasement and historic opportunity. Critics will
portend a new vietnam, and the conservatives will call for sacrifice. The
economy will end up deciding the matter, it seems to me.

Again, consumers could adopt radically new and creative anti-war purchasing
practices under smartcard consumer coalitions.

Preventing the 2003 US attack on Iraq. If what Baudrillard wrote of the
First Gulf War is true, ("it did not happen"), prevention is irrelevant.
