Full Description

“Pause” is a collage of static image, video and sound. There are four separate pages, each constituting a separate interactive environment. Visually, the project is based on the abstraction of form, drawing on the ideas of 20th century avant-garde. Conceptually, it seeks to redefine our understanding of the internet and new media.

The internet has been mainly perceived as a display space of information, an alternative to print media. Additionally, much of the internet is based on a culture of quick gratification - quick links, quick interaction, quick reading. “Pause” proposes to use the web not as a display space, but as a medium in itself. The simultaneous presentation of moving or static image, sound, and text content can be used in a unifying manner that redefines the current perception of the web. This is directly the meaning of collage: a use of separate and often conflicting media to create a cohesive work of art. “Pause” is thus a new media collage, drawing on the medium of the internet to create environments that are counterintuitive to how we ordinarily conceptualize the internet.
