FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS IN NEW ARTS JOURNALISM
The New Arts Journalism program of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) invites applications for full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty positions that will rotate into the role of program director, beginning August 2016. Rank and salary are commensurate with professional experience, teaching, and current professional status.

PROGRAM PROFILE
The Master of Arts (MA) in New Arts Journalism at SAIC is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and experiences to write and speak about the arts for diverse audiences. Located in a vibrant school of contemporary art and design, the MA in New Arts Journalism program provides full engagement with the theory and practice of journalism as well as the opportunity to work closely with artists, art historians, cultural theorists, art and design critics connected to a major American museum.

The MA Program in New Arts Journalism works with its graduate students and others from around the SAIC community to prepare them with the skills needed to meet the challenges of a career in cultural journalism. These involve the acquisition of design and production skills across media, peer reviewed short form writing, an immersion into the contexts of contemporary culture, and training in the ethics, procedures, and evolving platforms of journalism today.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for: teaching graduate courses in the department; conducting research and/or practice in the area of Arts Journalism; and contributing to the program and the School through administrative duties and service.

This position will also exhibit a high level of competence in one or more other academic arenas (for example, though not limited to, SAIC Departments and Programs such as Art History, Theory, and Criticism, Visual Critical Studies, Arts Administration and Policy, MFA in Writing, or a studio-based program), since participation in the academic life of SAIC outside of the primary commitment to New Arts Journalism will be part of the position.

The director will be responsible for hiring and reviewing faculty, shaping the curriculum, and providing extensive advising to prospective and current graduate students. The director will also work with various campus offices including the Office of Student Affairs, the Career + Co-op Center, and the Office of Institutional Advancement to identify experiential learning opportunities and serve as the face of the New Arts Journalism program to external entities and resources.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: MA or equivalent. Some teaching and/or administrative experience preferred. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in one or more of the many forms of Arts Journalism that comprise its contemporary position. These may include, but are not restricted to, extended accomplishment as writers for publication (print or web-based), and/or the production and dissemination of a platform of journalism (website, podcast, zine, documentary, etc.) The ideal candidate will be an active participant in the contemporary discussion about the role of arts journalism today, both in a theoretical and practical sense, and will contribute to the diversity of the School by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expands the intellectual conversation of the field.
