I am on the Internet IRL with Olivia Bradley-Skill

Dunkunsthalle, 64 Fulton Street, New York, NY 10038

Rhizome invites you to a listening party for songs that capture the feeling of being online, selected by sound and radio artist, Olivia Bradley-Skill. We’ll hear songs from as early as 1981 from genres spanning rap, synth-pop, and surveillance-core, featuring computer sounds such as keyboard strokes and instant message pings. The selection expands upon I am on the Internet and Cyber Attack!!, two episodes of Radio Ravioli, Bradley-Skill’s freeform radio show on WFMU. The episodes explore the nostalgia and romance we have for the internet, even as it surveils, consumes, and polarizes us. A limited number of I am on the Internet CDs, alongside other internet-themed printed matter and objects, will be available for purchase at the event.

Olivia Bradley-Skill is an interdisciplinary sound and radio artist, DJ, and educator. She is a restless, curious, and passionate sound-seeker, whose work spans through live radio performance, recording, sound design, and audio collage. She works at freeform radio station WFMU, where she is the station’s music director. In that role, she is in charge of maintaining the station’s extensive library, adding new releases, and a slate of other random tasks that come up at small radio stations with a tiny office staff. She creates intimate, immersive radio portraits weekly on “Radio Ravioli,” a genre-fluid three-hour radio program on WFMU, and has also partnered with Radio Art Zone, WGXC/ Wave Farm, The Lot Radio, Radiophrenia, Constellations Audio, and Earlid. Olivia Bradley-Skill has performed and hosted workshops at Union Docs, The Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, Fridman Gallery, Podcast Maker Livestream, Megapolis, and On Air Fest.

Dunkunsthalle is an artist-run museum and project space founded by Rachel Rossin, out of a defunct Dunkin' Donuts in the Financial District. Borrowing from the museum structure of the German 'kunsthalle,' the space mounts historic and contemporary exhibitions, as well as offering educational classes, film screenings and readings.
