The https://art.utexas.edu/ at The University of Texas at Austin seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice in Studio Art, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2023. Applicants should have particular expertise in digital approaches to creating artworks for diverse populations, and a dedication to working within a first-year, Foundations unit, which our department calls “Core.” Rank and salary commensurate with experience. This position requires relocation to Austin, TX.

This new position will focus on time via sound, video, sequence, performance, reproduction, documentation and photography. Many departmental students work in a cross-disciplinary way and want to acquire digital methods that can fit into an interdisciplinary practice. This faculty member will be encouraged to work fluidly with other areas in the department, college and University to meet student needs. They will lead the delivery of introductory coursework in time-based and technology-based art practice to all undergraduate majors in the department and collaborate with other Core and Studio Faculty to shape the curriculum of this area of Core. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses outside of Time and Technology (e.g., painting and drawing, sculpture, etc.) as fits their own creative expertise and practice.

Teaching will be the contractually defined primary area of focus for this position, with a focus on Core and Studio undergraduate courses. Opportunities for graduate teaching may occur. Professors of Practice teach a 3/3 course load, plus service for Core and Studio, and the potential for service contributions to the Department, College, and University. The successful candidate will be expected to remain current in their professional practice as a visual artist specializing in time-based or technology-based art but will not be required to make nationally significant contributions in the area of research/creative activity.

Qualifications

Applicants are expected to be well-versed in contemporary time-based art practices. An MFA is required. Teaching experience is required, preferably at the college level. Applicants should have a documented exhibition record and/or professional activity in the field of technology-based and/or time-based visual art practice. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience teaching and serving diverse populations is preferred.
