MIEFF announces its open-call and welcomes submissions for the International and Russian Competitions. The festival will take place on August 11 -16, 2021.
We invite filmmakers and artists using various approaches and methods to submit their work. The focus of our attention lies at the intersection of cinema, music, theatre, and contemporary art.
Despite the pandemic, our team managed to come up with an impressive programme last year. The international competition screenings included works by artists and filmmakers from 21 countries, with Maïder Fortuné, Annie Macdonnell, Laure Prouvost, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, and Cyprien Gaillard among others. We also organised the first Russian retrospective of queer-cinema pioneer Barbara Hammer and the conceptual curatorial section Fireworks that included not only digital and analogue screenings, but also performances and installations. For the first time in its history, the festival featured a Russian competition, which was designed to fulfill one of our primary purposes, that is, to support and promote local talent as well as to create a community of like-minded people. The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, the Moskino Cinema Chain, the Illusion Cinema and the Richter Art Space were the primary venues for MIEFF 2020 events.
We consider short films (up to 50 minutes) that were produced in 2020 and 2021. We welcome all varieties of forms and genres, ranging from experimental cinema, essays films and found footage to animation, music videos, audiovisual performances and more. All the works should be either Russian or Moscow premieres. Please bear in mind that we also consider feature-length films for our non-competitive programmes.
Deadline is May 3, 2021. We process all the submissions via FilmFreeway platform. The list of works included into the competition will be announced on our site on June 1 at the latest. If there are any questions, you can reach us at firstname.lastname@example.org
