Sounds of Life invites you to attend the Sound Culture University from June 10-20, 2020 in Kingston, Jamaica.

At the Sound Culture University, music is life. We highlight the dynamic nature of sound and music in our lives and use the knowledge gained to design applications across a wide range of disciplines and practices.

The SCU is facilitated by dj afifa and will take the form of a road trip along a selected route with planned stops for presentations, demonstrations, recordings and field work.

Dj afifa is a selecta who makes sound projects and spaces inspired by music. She lives and works in Jamaica and is currently working on the memory project; an investigation into the relationship between music, our sound environment and our memory.

Participants will work together with dj afifa to explore the following questions:

Why is it important to understand sound culture?

How does our memory work?

Why is remembering important?

How does sound and music affect our memory?

Can music help us remember?

Can popular music cause memory loss?

How can we apply our understanding of sound and music to address Alzheimers or other memory related illnesses in our society?
