The Department of Art & Design at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Expanded Photography to begin September 2020.

We seek to recruit a broadly diverse faculty dedicated to cultivating visual and creative literacy, experimentation, critical dialogue, and equity within an interdisciplinary arts community situated in a leading public research university. Art & Design encourages applications from underrepresented groups in academia and the arts, including but not limited to artists of color, individuals of diverse gender identities, first generation college and higher education students, artists with disabilities, and those with non-traditional and exceptional pathways to teaching and the arts.

Candidates should have conceptual and technical grounding in the full complement of analog and digital photography. They should have knowledge of histories and theories of photography; an ability to teach all practices of fine art photography, ideally including both analog and digital; experience with related media, which might include new technologies, installation, film, video, performance, and/or social practice, and should have broad knowledge and understanding of contemporary art. Candidates should be active in their field, with a significant record of professional achievement, and at least three years of university-level or equivalent teaching experience. They should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching, the ability to fully participate and thrive in an interdisciplinary arts environment, and experience with or potential for academic leadership.

The position entails teaching undergraduate and graduate studio and seminar classes at all levels, from introductory to advanced, teaching and advising graduate students working in all media, assisting in student recruitment, curriculum development, mentoring and overseeing graduate assistants, and serving on departmental and university committees.

Minimum Education and Requirements:
-MFA in Art or equivalent degree
-At least three years of university-level or equivalent teaching experience
-Technical and conceptual grounding in the full complement of analog and digital photography
-Knowledge of contemporary art and photography theory and history.
