PA004: Art and Science: Transdisciplinary Approaches to Data Exploration and Communication

A transdisciplinary approach that brings together individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds to address a common goal can lead to innovative solutions in Earth and space science research. In our session, we invite presentations that integrate the use of art as inquiry and/or the application of novel technologies to scientific research, data exploration, and communication. We focus on three themes: (1) the artistic approach (including visual and performing arts); (2) the technology (including critical making approaches, and virtual and augmented reality); and (3) the facilities (including art galleries, museums, and performance venues). We invite contributions at all stages of development and across our themes from artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers, educators, scientists, and software developers alike. We encourage interactive presentations where possible. Please join us in learning about current collaborations and exploring new opportunities through the integration of art and science.

Invited Speakers:
Dr. Ben Andrews, Director of the Global Volcanism Program, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

Julia Buntaine, Founder/Director of SciArt Center, New York and Founder/ Editor-in-Chief of SciArt Magazine
