Description:
The New Media program in the School of Film and Media Studies at Purchase College seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2018. The successful candidate will teach research-based media arts within the undergraduate New Media curriculum as well as the schools new MFA in Media Arts and Culture. Candidates should articulate how their practice could also contribute to our programs in the School of Art+Design. Specializations could include, but are not limited to, time-based installation, critical or speculative design, media installation, social software and mobile media, AR/VR/MR and other emerging fields. Teaching responsibilities will include courses that are a combination of undergraduate foundation classes (specifically in design or in video), general education courses available to non-majors, upper-level electives, and graduate-level coursework tailored to the successful candidates area of specialization. Other duties include supervision of senior projects (a signature feature of the Purchase curriculum), academic advising and community service (which encompasses committee work as well as College, School, and Board of Study governance).  

Qualifications:
A terminal degree (MFA) in a studio discipline or related field is required. A PhD with will also be considered if the candidate has an active media arts practice. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level, or of potential as an effective teacher, is also required. Minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
