Law's Imagination
Curatorial Residency by Jack Tan / 3 May 26 June 2016
Opening: Thursday, 5th May, 6-9pm

Thursday to Saturdays, 12-6pm or by appointment

LAW'S IMAGINATION is a gallery-residency presenting Jack Tan's exploration of legal aesthetics via his work as an artist and curator. Through interactions with lawyers, academics, writers, other artists and curators, the residency will trace connections between law and art.

Tan will present the results of mini-residencies by artists FLORA PARROTT and MARCO GODOY as well as his own research in various exhibitions of sculpture, video, photography and performance throughout the period. Expert and lay audiences will also be invited to create collective knowledge via the gallery education programme of discussions, talks and curated walks. This will be delivered as a 6 week mock TRAINING COURSE to obtain a 'certificate in legal aesthetics', and a 4 week lunchtime RADIO SHOW. We are also pleased to host CARE ACTS, a symposium using exhibitions-making as a methodology to explore the implications of recent health legislation on care practice. From these accumulations, arebyte gallery will become a site where knowledge gleaned over time about legal aesthetics is made visible in visual, material and discursive presentation. Law’s Imagination launches on 5 May 2016 with an opening music performance and showcase of graphics scores by Jack Tan inspired from his recent artist’s residency at the Family Justice and State Courts of Singapore.
