MIA presents, WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE: PAEAN TO A VANISHING RESOURCE
a touring new media exhibition and film festival exploring water issues

The MIA screening series is pleased to present the traveling exhibition, Water, Water Everywhere in a special festival of four screenings, Saturday, January 26th, 2013. Water is the world’s most crucial commodity and the basis for all earthly life. Its preservation and protection may be our greatest environmental challenge. The global water crisis affects everyone, from those lacking enough to those experiencing uncontrollable floods that wipe away homes and land and wildlife.
Water, Water Everywhere, curated by Jennifer Heath, is comprised of 30-second to 30-minute films from forty-five artists worldwide exploring water issues from the political to the personal and from ethics to aesthetics, with works that are documentary, experimental, educational, humorous, solemn, animated and acted. The exhibition began traveling to arts, educational, environmental, science, and other organizations and institutions beginning in August 2012 and is scheduled to tour through 2017.
The special festival day is comprised of four distinct screenings starting with PART 1: We're All Downstream at 12:30PM featuring short films dealing with the Gulf Oil spill in 2010, anti-dam river activism, hydraulic fracturing and more. PART 2: Our Cup Runneth… at 2:30PM explores drought, deforestation, and artists whose practices utilize plastic waste. PART 3: A Commons. A Public Trust. A Human Right at 4:30PM features works dealing with the Río Grande/Río Bravo, the island of Java, the Kabul Sea and more. PART 4: Every Drop A World at 6:30PM deals with humans relationship to water from Canada's Tar Sands to the South Indian River Cauvery.
The MIA(Moving Image Art) series began in June of 2012, founded by video artist Alanna Simone to promote the work of artists who use the moving image. Every 4th Friday at 8PM, the MIA series screens video art, experimental films, performance art, essay films and animation from local and international artists at the Armory Center for the Arts, 145 North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91103. Each program is organized around a theme and regular screenings usually last a little over an hour. A donation of $5 is suggested.
