On the symbolical date of 27 January 2010, the 65th return of the Liberation of the Concentration Camp of Auschwitz – the internationally renown media artist and curator Wilfried Agricola de Cologne launched SFC -Shoah Film Collection - an independent art project and international initiative addressed to young generations of artists and filmmakers to deal with the topic of Shoah (Holocaust) and collective trauma caused by totalitarianism by using new technologies and contemporary approaches in order to keep vivid the memory through sensitizing via art. Meanwhile an outstanding collection of experimental and documentary art film & videos contributed by more than 60 artists from 14 countries was raising.

In order to make the Shoah Film Collection accessible to a wider audience, Wilfried Agricola de Cologne created an experimental event context, entitled: A Virtual Memorial – Commemorative Interventions which is placing SFC –Shoah Film Collection in the context of complementary interventions, such as lectures, exhibitions, a symposium, artists presentations, screenings and much more in order to start a discussion on many levels and activate the artists, as well as the audience.

The 1st pilot project was realised in Latvia 2012 – A Virtual Memorial Riga 2012 - 1-30 June 2012 – a collaboration with Riga Ghetto and Latvian Holocaust Museum, Culture & Arts Project and Latvian Video Archives NOASS and artvideoKOELN – standing under the Patronage of European Parliament.

It was the experiment, how a discussion can be started to bring the artists and their concepts close to the audience and enable and encourage an intensive exchange, resulting the burning desire to continue the process initiated in Riga to be fulfilled one year later in Lithuania in Vilnius and Kedainiai in autumn 2013 as the 2nd pilot project - “A Virtual Memorial Vilnius 2013” - a collaboration with Jewish Culture & Information Center, Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum & Regional Museum of Kedainiai – 23 Sept – 27 Oct 2013 – standing under the Patronage of the European Parliament. The symposium taking place as the part of 4th World Litvak Congress 2013 Vilnius – 23-26 September 2013 was standing under the topic, how moving images transport the collective trauma to future generations, can be considered as most successful.

Call: 10th Cologne International Videoart Festival

Wed Apr 30, 2014 00:00

Call for entries
deadline: 30 April 2014

CologneOFF X - 10th Cologne International Videoart Festival
"Total Art

Founded in 2006, Cologne International Videoart Festival is celebrating in 2014 its 10th festival edition
During 10 years, CologneOFF was supporting "art & moving images" and and encourage artists to use this exciting medium creatively.
For Cologne International Videoart Festival, CologneOFF X is representing the final festival edition, afterwards
Cologne International Videoart Festival will continue as an exhibition format of artvideoKOELN international
in the framework of its global activities of "art & moving images".

CologneOFF X ist standing under the theme of "Total Art", showing video as a multi-facetted artistic audio-visual medium,
which is executed solely by its creator, including filming, cutting, editing, composing, post-priducing etc, thus the whole creation in one single hand.
The digitalization of video made it only possible, that artists can create such a "total art" work, due to the affordability of the entire production. It is not even necessary to have the most advanced professional equipment. A creative person can use even cheap production tools for creating excellent art works.

But, "Total Art" is not only related to the creative production of a video, but also to the artistic contents, encouraging submitting artists to use all their creativity to go steps forward in exploring the artistic potential of video.

CologneOFF X is
- looking for art works using video as a medium in all its variety, but for submitting only single channel videos are eligible, a hybrid type of work which can be used for different presentation forms like screening, projection and installation.
- expecting new and experimental artistic approaches in transforming essential issues of human existence into the language of the "moving images".
- inviting film & video creators - to submit up to 3 videos (max duration 10 minutes, exceptions possible)) in following categories -->
(experimental) film - videoart - documentary, whereby animated and very short (60 seconds) forms are particularly encouraged.
Only online submissions are eligible.

More details, the regulations and entry form can be found online on
