The School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds

Dates:
Wed Feb 14, 2007 00:00 - Mon Feb 12, 2007

The School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds announces a project space on Second Life to make, show, and think about art. In the first educational space of its kind, students will display work for their degree shows, curate exhibits and collaborate with such cultural theorists and art historians as Griselda Pollock, Eric Prenowitz, Catherine Karkov, and Gail Day. The program is dedicated to creating and exploring work in excess of the internal logic of the system it will inhabit. It is anti-techno-utopian, but on the lookout for provisional utopias, in the words of Jacques Ranciere, where people can find and make them.

The School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies is internationally recognized for its early and influential role in integrating theory and art making. T.J. Clarke, Adrian Rifkin, Terry Atkinson were several of the early proponents of a more plastic relationship between art and theory, which is carried out to this day in programs that explore the space between art and non-art, theory and lived experience.
