Inspired by traditional painting genres like portraiture and landscape, Andrew Demirjian’s work explores boundaries between psychological and physical environments using contemporary technology, like surveillance video, motion tracking, and data gathering. He fuses computer programming and audiovisual production to create systems that dynamically grow and change based on user input or self-reflection. Conceptual systems of juxtaposition, categorization and randomness replace conventional narrative arcs and character development. Andrew draws upon his experience as a musician and filmmaker to produce interactions between sound and image that respond to and shape one another.

His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and galleries including Rush Arts, the White Box gallery, Harvestworks, LMAK Projects, and The Center for Book Arts in Manhattan. He has participated in international exhibitions in Belgium, England, Finland, France, Germany, Korea, the Netherlands, Poland, and Russia. Andrew Demirjian received a 2006 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a Puffin Foundation Grant, an Artslink grant and has been awarded artist in residencies at the Eyebeam Art and Technology Center, the MacDowell Colony, Djerassi, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, the Newark Museum, the Experimental Television Center, SUMU, CYLAND Media Art Laboratory, and the Grand Canyon South Rim Program. Andrew received his MFA in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College and he is a professor at Monmouth University teaching courses in new media, video production and screen studies.
