Scott Blake
Since 2006
Works in Omaha, Nebraska United States of America

Scott Blake takes barcodes and turns them into art - art that is simultaneously pop and op, intellectual and personal, minimal and ocular. Blake uses the black and white icon of our data-drenched existence to stimulate thought on topics from consumerism to religion and individual identity. He urges the viewer to consider the limitations of digitized human expression and to appropriate these symbols of commodity.

Call For Proposals: Plutopia 2009

My name is Scott Blake and I make art with barcodes.
I would like to setup my interactive Barcode Art at the 2009 Plutopia Party.

My traveling Barcode Art show is completely portable, stand-alone art exhibit. I use backdrop stands to make 8 foot tall light boxes that are quite impressive. Some familiar faces include: Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ozzy Osbourne, and Bruce Lee.

With each scan of a barcode comes a surprise. I have developed an barcode scanning interface which brings the portraits to life.

It takes me about 2 hours to setup the entire exhibit and 45 minutes to take it down. I can setup almost anywhere. I recently set up in a gymnasium.
