EVENT

Cell-Outs and Phonies at Los Angeles Center for Digital Art

Dates:
Fri Aug 06, 2004 00:00 - Sun Jul 25, 2004

(please add to calander, I think we already did an annoucement but I forgot to do the calander part. thanks! rex bruce )

Los Angeles Center For Digital Art presents:

"Cell-outs and Phonies"
an exhibition of cell phone media

August 6-27
Opening Reception
Friday August 6, 7-11pm

As the digital world grows to encompass all aspects of our life, we see the
gadgets of our day-to-day existence evolving into expressive art mediums. The advent of cell phones with built-in cameras has sprung a revolution in
photography and digital filmmaking; its accessibility is eliminating the boundaries between amateur and professional. Examining the line where art and technology intersect, Cell-outs and Phonies, explores this new way of creating and experiencing digital art.

Short films will be shown on LCDs and projected while other images are
printed, up-linked or never removed from the actual phone.

The opening reception will feature music assembled entirely with ring tones by German experimental group Super Smart and continuous screenings of cell phone videos.

Re: Re: RHIZOME_RARE: Los Angeles Center For Digital Art: Open Call

Every year in L.A. for the past 50 years they have had an open show at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery where everyone pays $20 and gets to show their art (and support the gallery). You show up at the museum with your piece and they hang it. It is really great. The opening was last Sunday and I had a wonderful time. I'm sure I will show some of the digital artists they had there. They show 1,000 artists and the work is generally really strong. We decided to do a international/digital version of the same thing.

Info on the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery open show:

http://www.artscenecal.com/Announcements/0604/Barnsdall0604.html

"Southern California-based artists to show their work in a non-juried exhibition at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, 4800 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90027. Open Call L.A. 2004 celebrates the 50-year tradition of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery’s summertime All City Art Festival. The exhibition dates are July 14 - August 15, 2004, with an exhibition reception scheduled for July 18, 2004, 2:00 - 7:00 p.m."

So far the "Snap to Grid" call has been doing well and there are some really great artists in there that will have exhibition opportunities beyond the open show to be sure. Anyway, we need all of the support we can get, so you have our sincere thanks for featuring us on your site!
