Graphic Design - Asst/Assoc. Professor

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS, in Philadelphia, is the only university in the nation dedicated to education and professional training in the design, visual, media and performing arts. Through its three colleges, it currently offers undergraduate/graduate degree programs in acting, communication, crafts, dance, design, fine arts, media arts, multimedia, music, musical theater, writing, and museum and arts education. Core and elective Liberal Arts courses comprise one-third of the undergraduate curriculum. Students pursuing degrees now number over 2400; over 4000 take non-degree courses.
We invite applications for the following multiyear faculty position.

College of Art and Design (CAD)

A comprehensive visual arts college offering a full range of undergraduate and graduate professionally oriented programs in fine arts, crafts, design, media arts, art education and museum studies. Enrollment 1200 undergraduates, 175 graduate students. 62 full-time faculty, 125 part-time faculty.
Graphic Design - Asst/Assoc Professor - Teach both introductory and advanced graphic design courses using new media in a nationally recognized BFA Program. Qualifications: MFA substantial professional experience in design, multimedia and user interface design, teaching experience preferred, evidence of scholarship, and interest in interdisciplinary projects a plus. Salary and rank commensurate with experience.

Deadlines -- Review of applications for all CAD positions will begin on or about February 15, 2008. Late applications will be accepted and evaluated until the position is filled.

The University of the Arts Multimedia Department seeks candidates to fill a full-time, multi-year, non-tenure track position as an assistant or associate professor. Rank and salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. A focus in any of the following is of particular interest to the department: information theory, human-computer interaction, social computing, tactical media, game theory and contemporary art and design history.

The Multimedia Department is home to UArts’ interdisciplinary curriculum for designers interested in interactive and installation design and practical and entrepreneurial applications for the creative arts. Located in dynamic Center City Philadelphia, the program focuses on creating young media designers not limited by traditional mediums of study and ready to excel in the wide variety of options open to creative individuals today. The curriculum offers web design and development, installation art, video and animation, and media theory and research, and allows access to the many University programs, such as liberal arts, music, and graphic design. Students develop critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills through a combination of studio practice, academic courses, and professional development.
