EIDOLON CULTURE presents

HABITATS a 4 day Cultural Festival

Date: November 9th - 12th , 2006

Time: Programs begin daily at 12:00pm until 11pm

Location: The Brooklyn Lyceum 227 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215
N Train to Union Street, Corner of President Street

Admission: $5 for environmental + cultural conferences, $15 for live performance program

Program: From November 9-12 in Gowanus Brooklyn, artists, scientists, community organizers and cultural commentators come together to create a collective vision of a sustainable habitat. Instigated by Eidolon Culture, Habitats provides a model for dialogue between urban developers and environmentalists through conferences and panels, participatory and collaborative art, and educational programs. With community efforts leading to cleaner water, the Gowanus Canal area has experienced an increase in wildlife and the prospect of commercial and cultural revitalization. Habitats celebrates this process.

Featuring:
Conference panelists such as author Steven Johnson (“Emergence: The Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software” (http://www.stevenberlinjohnson.com), Douglas Rushkoff (http://www.rushkoff.com) and Daniel Pinchbeck (http://www.breakingopenthehead.com) .
Long-standing community organizers such as the Gowanus Canal Community Development Corporation (GCCDC) (www.gowanus.org).
Electronic artists such as Pauline Oliveros (Deep Listening Foundation) (www.deeplistening.org) ; installations designs by Amoeba Technology (http://www.amoebatechnology.net) , Russian Art Group 2012 (http://www.2012.spb.ru) , interactive Gowanus soundmaps by the NY Acoustic Eccology group (http://www.nyacousticecology.org/) ; site specific sound and video recordings, live music performances, installations, collaborative projects, recycled art, workshops and active audience participation.

"Habitats: collaborative environments" is a cultural evening organized to initiate an exchange between art, technology, and environment. Artists participate in creating an intermediate space of co-existence which is fundamentally collaborative, contextual and interdisciplinary in its orientation.
