call for entries: synthetic zero art/video/performance event

Deadline:
Fri May 31, 2013 23:55

Location:
Bronx, New York
United States of America

The next Synthetic Zero Event will be on June 29 and July 3 at BronxArtSpace, only 20 minutes from Union Square. We're looking for visual art, performance, experimental video, music, readings, dance and other work for the show.

The Synthetic Zero events are a series of DIY art events focusing on high quality experimental and contemporary work in different media. We typically do not have a specific theme for each event but instead work with ideas that emerge from the interaction between submitted work and curatorial interests. By working this way, we hope the events reflect back the dialogue and practice of artists involved and create evocative encounters for the audience. In the past, a diverse set of curators has chosen work by artists from around the world, including Miranda July, Yoshi Sodeoka, Zoe Leonard, Hector Canonge, Benton Bainbridge, and many others. Prior event programs can be found here.

To be considered, send the following to events@syntheticzero.com:

CV including contact information/website address
Artist Statement
Still Images

Slide List for images including title, date, dimensions, medium, and description if needed
Video:
Play List for submitted videos including title, date, time, preferred display method, and description if needed
We prefer videos sent as links to downloadable video files or Vimeo or YouTube links. You can also send a DVD (NTSC or PAL) to:
Mitsu Hadeishi / Synthetic Zero
305 E 140th St #1A
Bronx, NY 10454

The event is being curated by Mitsu Hadeishi, who has been putting on art events in the New York City area since 2003, including work from artists both local to the city and from around the world. These events have featured experimental video, performance, visual art, dance, music, poetry, interactive work, and installations.

EVENT

#D - video, installation, 3D - curated by Giselle Zatonyl

Dates:
Sat Jun 23, 2012 19:00 - Sat Jun 30, 2012

Location:
Bronx, New York
United States of America

#D is a group exhibition comprised of sculpture and 3D based digital works that address three dimensionality, and in conjunction attempt to challenge the flexibility of medium categorization. Invaliding the necessity to categorize, an action that often impairs further development by isolating relevant styles and artists into high and low brow, the exhibition also reconciles virtual and physical space, celebrating the interchangeable qualities of both approaches.

The exhibition is curated by Giselle Zatonyl and the participating artists are:

Anthony Antonellis
Bhakti Baxter
Ryan Estep
Manuel Fernandez
Jessica Gispert
Emilio Gomariz
Rollin Leonard
Sara Ludy
Malgosia Woznica (V5MT)
Lorna Mills
Eva Papamargariti
Erik H Rzepka
Jessica Sanders
Yoshi Sodeoka
Tatiana Vahan

EVENT

Inside is not the Opposite of Outside

Dates:
Sat Jun 09, 2012 19:00 - Sat Jun 09, 2012

Location:
Bronx, New York
United States of America

The next Synthetic Zero show at BronxArtSpace, "Inside is Not the Opposite of Outside" is co-curated by Emily Roberts-Negron and Mitsu Hadeishi.

Define extrovert. Introvert.

These two words have been interpreted and reinterpreted to conform to a general understanding of disposition. But perhaps these varying definitions illustrate a much more complex idea, that they aren't really in opposition of one another. Perhaps the two exist on their own; individual spectrums which echo one another like the rise and fall of an ocean's tide.

How does one describe an array of emotion, taking account of every nuance and change? This show will be an exploration of the behavior/idiosyncrasies/characterstics of introversion both as an emotional mode and a space of introspection and creative incubation, not as the polar opposite of extroversion, but overlapping with it, undulating together with it, in waves. We are looking for works across the full gradation of emotion and expression. They can be romantic, pessimistic, hairy, toothsome, frustrated, proud, intellectual, courteous, hungry, lonely, horny, cautious, congenial, meditative... together they will form a collective depiction of this singular paradoxical relation.
