Call for Entries: Looking In/Looking Out - Synthetic Zero/Emily Roberts-Negron show

Deadline:
Thu Oct 10, 2013 00:00

Location:
New York
United States of America

The next Synthetic Zero show at BronxArtSpace, "Looking In/Looking Out" will be co-curated by Emily Roberts-Negron and Mitsu Hadeishi. We are looking for visual art, performance, experimental video, music, readings, dance, or other work for the show. The theme of the show is described below; please feel free to submit any and all work related to the theme closely or remotely. The submission deadline is October 10.

Looking in: I look at you, but I see a mixture of me and you, a facade of our reflections. When we look in on someone or some thing, we imagine what we see doesn't notice our gaze, yet the act of looking forever changes what we see as well as ourselves. Can we ever really be separate from what we see? Can we ever really touch what we see?

Looking out: A romantic gesture beyond ourselves. We look out at what appears to be a/the/our world, surrounding us in sequence. But its expanse is indefinite. How far can we see before the lines begin to blur?

Can we see without looking?

Please email us at events@syntheticzero.com with information about your submission; links, images, artist statement. If you would like to submit video, please do NOT send DVDs --- send links to videos on Vimeo, YouTube, or download links for video files.

If you need to call: 718 772-4961; however, email is preferred.

DIRECTIONS:

The art space is at 305 E. 140th St., #1A, Bronx NY 10454.

We're about 20 minutes from Union Square. From Manhattan, 4-5 train to 125th, transfer to 6, one stop to 3rd Ave/138th St, it's 2 blocks from there. Note there are two exits at 3rd Ave/138th, one at Alexander Ave and one at 3rd Ave. Ring 3A or 1B if 1A does not answer.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO FRIENDS! Thanks.

EVENT

#D - video, installation, 3D - curated by Giselle Zatonyl

Dates:
Sat Jun 23, 2012 19:00 - Sat Jun 30, 2012

Location:
Bronx, New York
United States of America

#D is a group exhibition comprised of sculpture and 3D based digital works that address three dimensionality, and in conjunction attempt to challenge the flexibility of medium categorization. Invaliding the necessity to categorize, an action that often impairs further development by isolating relevant styles and artists into high and low brow, the exhibition also reconciles virtual and physical space, celebrating the interchangeable qualities of both approaches.

The exhibition is curated by Giselle Zatonyl and the participating artists are:

Anthony Antonellis
Bhakti Baxter
Ryan Estep
Manuel Fernandez
Jessica Gispert
Emilio Gomariz
Rollin Leonard
Sara Ludy
Malgosia Woznica (V5MT)
Lorna Mills
Eva Papamargariti
Erik H Rzepka
Jessica Sanders
Yoshi Sodeoka
Tatiana Vahan
