Call for entries: Synthetic Zero September Event

Deadline:
Sun Aug 10, 2014 12:00

Location:
Bronx, New York
United States of America

SUBMISSION DEADLINE AUGUST 10, 2014

The next Synthetic Zero Event will be in September 2014 at BronxArtSpace, only 20 minutes from Union Square. We're looking for visual art, performance, video, music, readings, dance and other work for the show.

The Synthetic Zero events are a series of informal art events focusing on high quality experimental and contemporary work in different media. We typically do not have a specific theme for each event but instead work with ideas that emerge from the interaction between submitted work and curatorial interests. By working this way, we hope the events reflect back the dialogue and practice of artists involved and create evocative encounters for the audience. In the past, a diverse set of curators has chosen work by artists from around the world, including Miranda July, Yoshi Sodeoka, Zoe Leonard, Hector Canonge, Benton Bainbridge, and many others. Prior event programs can be found here.

EVENT

Looking In/Looking Out: Art/Video/Performance Event

Dates:
Sat Nov 02, 2013 19:00 - Sat Nov 02, 2013

Location:
Bronx, New York
United States of America

The next Synthetic Zero show, "Looking In/Looking Out", is curated by Emily Roberts-Negron and Mitsu Hadeishi, and will be at BronxArtSpace (only 20 mins from Union Square). The show includes performance, experimental video, music, and visual art. Show open Sat Nov 2, 7-10pm, also on view Wed Nov 6, 6-9pm, and open to the public W-F 3:30pm-6:30pm, Sat 12-5pm Nov 6-16.

Looking in: I look at you, but I see a mixture of me and you, a facade of our reflections. When we look in on someone or some thing, we imagine what we see doesn't notice our gaze, yet the act of looking forever changes what we see as well as ourselves. Can we ever really be separate from what we see? Can we ever really touch what we see?

Looking out: A romantic gesture beyond ourselves. We look out at what appears to be a/the/our world, surrounding us in sequence. But its expanse is indefinite. How far can we see before the lines begin to blur?

Can we see without looking?
