Russian-American composer and violist LEV ZHURBIN was born in Moscow, Russia, and has lived in New York City since age eleven. A graduate of The Juilliard School (where he studied viola with Samuel Rhodes, violist of the Juilliard String Quartet), Lev has performed concerti with the Manhattan Virtuosi, The New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble and the Schlewig Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra in Germany. At age sixteen, he was the principal violist of the Absolute Ensemble, and has since performed on stage with the Orchestra of St. Lukes, and recorded in the studio with the Electric Light Orchestra. Lev is often performing contemporary music with the Orchestra of the SEM ensemble.

Aside from classical viola, Lev leads an active life as composer and improvisor. His compositions have been performed by the acclaimed violinist Robert McDuffie, as well as by the Nevsky Quartet of St. Petersburg. His compositions have been broadcast on both US and European Radio.

Since 1999, Lev has been actively promoting his music on the Internet. His website hosts over 100 different selections in many diverse genres. It also includes several collaborations with other Internet musicians, ranging in genres from avant-garde improvisation to world-fusion to blues, to classical.
