BIO
Liza Béar is a writer and filmmaker.
She cofounded and edited Avalanche Magazine (1970-1976) with Willoughby Sharp.
In 1977 she coproduced Send/Receive Satellite Network, Phase I and 11 with Keith Sonnier.
Her films and videos, including Force of Circumstance (1990), an experimental narrative feature, and Oued Nefifik: A Foreign Movie (1982) have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the Sao Paolo Biennale, The Festival of the Other Avant-Garde and other venues. She was the executive producer of The WARC Report (1979) and Communications Update/Cast Iron TV (1980-1983) on public access cable tv. Her videos are distributed by Video Data Bank. Her book "Beyond the Frame: Dialogues with World Filmmakers" was published by Praeger in 2007. She is a contributing editor at Bomb.
