Upcoming Art and Technology Lectures at Columbia University

Dates:
Mon Sep 20, 2004 00:00 - Sat Sep 18, 2004

Dear Rhizome members,

Columbia University's Art & Technology Lectures will continue this fall with a
focus on the legal, technological, and conceptual issues
that confront artists and engineers in the age of open source culture.

The first lecturer, Joy Garnett, will speak about her recent run in with a
litigious photographer at 6:00 PM this Thursday, September 23, in 702
Hamilton Hall (east of Butler Library). Joy Garnett is a painter and editor
of NEWSgrist, a blog focusing on art, politics and digital culture. In
Riot, her most recent solo exhibition at Debs & Co. in New York, she
presented paintings based on news photographs of figures in states of
emotional or physical extremity. In 2000 she created The Bomb Project, a web
resource conceived and designed for artists and activists interested in
making politically relevant work about nuclear issues. She is currently
working on a series of painting about war and global nomadism.

The Art & Technology Lectures will continue with Jeffrey
Cunard on October 28, Siva Vaidhyanathan on November 18, Jon Ippolito on
December 2, and Cory Arcangel on December 16.

Streaming video of the lectures will be available online at
