The Devil went up to Seattle
~Kimani David

The Devil went up to Seattle looking for a soul to steal
in a bind
and way behind
he was looking to make a deal

He smiled at a black boy on his guitar playing hot
the devil had sin
within his grin
he said "Boy, I'll tell you what.

"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a guitar player too
and if you care
to take a dare
I'll make a bet with you.

"You play a pretty guitar son, but give the devil his due.
I'll bet a guitar gold
against your soul
cuz I think I'm better than you."

The Boy said "My Name's Jimi, and it might be a sin
but I'll take your bet
and you're gonna regret,
I'm the best there's ever been."

The devil diabolical decided to play first.
a roll of dice
to put a soul on ice
he though this gamble would cause a curse

So the devil picked up his guitar and risened up his pick
he strummed his strings
and evil things
came rising out of the mist

The devil 's sultry serenade bore a spiteful hole within
the devil an ace
switched to his bass
as a band of demons joined in

Fire flew from his fingertips as he raised his guitar in the air
The devil done
he said "Boy I've won,
But its your turn now, I'm fair."

Jimi picked up his spade and played a mournful tune
The devil gazed
into a purple haze
as wolves howled at the moon

He lifted up his instrument and played it with his teeth
a silver wail
that would make hearts fail
made the devil cower from beneath

He played a song of love and death, a ballad of shivering power
a foxy lady
hid in the shady
skeleton of a cold watch tower

He finished up his music, the wind was crying "Mary"
from a castle of sand
he held up his hands
he was done, the devil wary

The devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat
in despair
he layed his guitar there
at the ground near Jimi's feet

Then Jimi said "Devil, come back, if you'd ever like to try again
But I told you once
you son of a bitch
I'm the best there's ever been!"
