Artist Statement:
I’m interested in failure, falling, subversion, collaboration, interaction, and complex systems.


Katharine Hawthorne is a San Francisco based choreographer and performance artist. She has performed with dance and theater artists in the San Francisco Bay Area, Minneapolis, MN, and Beijing, China. She currently dances for Hope Mohr Dance and Ledges and Bones. Hawthorne's creative work draws from her background as a trained physics research scientist and fuses technology - sensors, radio, moving light, and film - with performance. Her work has been presented in the Bay Area at ODC, Dance Mission, SOMArts, Shotwell Studios, San Francisco Young Choreographer’s Festival, Stanford Lively Arts, and the Cantor Art Center; in Chicago at High Concept Laboratories; in Minneapolis at SooVAC; in New York at the Center for Performance Research and DUMBO Dance Festival; and internationally at the International Computer Music Conference. Katharine holds a B.S. in Physics and Dance, with honors, from Stanford University.
