VIRAL SYMPHONY BY JOSEPH NECHVATAL

Since 1986 Joseph Nechvatal has worked with ubiquitous electronic visual information, computers and computer-robotics. His computer-robotic assisted paintings and computer animations are shown regularly in galleries and museums throughout the world. From 1991-1993 he worked as artist-in-resident at the Louis Pasteur Atelier and the Saline Royale / Ledoux Foundation's computer lab in Arbois, France on The Computer Virus Project: an experiment with computer viruses as a creative stratagem. In 2002 he extended that artistic research into the field of viral artificial life through his collaboration with the programmer Stéphane Sikora.

OPPORTUNITY

FONLAD FESTIVAL 2011

Deadline:
Thu Mar 31, 2011 12:00

Location:
Coimbra, Portugal

Fonlad Festival is looking for artists proposals on photography and digital painting (Shipping Minds at Icon Gallery, Coimbra Portugal, 7 to 28 May), video and animation (Video Art Show Room, Block of the Arts, Montemor-o-Velho, Coimbra Portugal, 21 May, 4 and 11 June), web art (Cyberideologies, UAVM Virtual museum, 14 May to 28 August 2011). Regulations and submission form at www.fonlad.net http://www.fonlad.net> Dead line: 31 March 2011
Concept: Unlike television, which is a passive spectator of the action, the user of the Internet, acts at will, jumping from page to page looking for something. Even if he doesn’t find anything, he built a mental journey, a journey through the virtual world. This trip, that has been sheded in the corners of your memory, loosing images, sounds, words, short phrases, like small cards forgotten in a drawer are waiting to be re-discovered.
These are the forgotten memories of those virtual trips that FONLAD Festival seeks to recover from the memory of artists, challenging them to produce art projects based on these experiences. Thoughts galloping fickle virtualities.

EVENT

VIRTUAL WORLDS

Dates:
Fri Apr 02, 2010 00:00 - Wed Apr 07, 2010

Location:
Portugal

Virtual world" in common sense, leads to the idea of a 3D environment, which seeks to resemble the real world. These worlds actually imitates the real world laws such as gravity, topography, communication, etc., creating alternative worlds to reality designed primarily for entertainment (such as, for example, computer games).
In recent years, however, we witnessed a massive growth in internet and the birth of many virtual worlds are beginning to depart from the rudimentary purpose of entertainment, evolving into real social networks of some importance (as is the case of Second Life).
Regardless of the objectives that have these worlds, its creation involves an area of contemporary art that should be encouraged, and in-depth study: 3D art creation.
With Aaron Oldenburg, Caterina Davinio, Gregoire Zabé, Henry Gwiazda. Jinson Joseph, Kevin Sarmiento, Laura Castanedo, Mark Skarek, Mi You, Olivier Ruellet, Patrick Millard, Silvestre Pestana, Gruppo Sinestético, Suguru Goto, Susanne Weigner e Tony Murray.
