5 Million Dollars 1 Terabyte (2011) - Manuel Palou

i like and dislike this piece and for that it is successful. sentiments lie in above comments exactly with the added fact that I don't know what's in that drive and how it is significant if I just encounter it in the museum. perhaps it should be shown plugged into a display device?

I wouldn't worry about staying objective. If it's an opinion piece I'll read it like one but-while i know what you meant since I was in town just then-I think you need to substantiate your claims more. I've discovered no one is ever satisfied when you write a survey (historical or regional).
thanks for the link.

Despite that "void" you are talking about I see continuities in approaches too. Irreverence, irony, failure, institutional critique, self-referentialty seem to be recurring themes in previous and current web-based practices. If anyone continues at things like BYOB, Speed Show or even New Age Default as I have done with ripping off No Permission, they would eventually become normative models for exhibiting net art regardless of where they are in the world. What I mean is, I don't really feel like there is anything so new about what this community does... in fact i feel we are politically more conservative than before.
Also, I think 01.org are a longrunning team that seem to have a politicized practice that is relevant to both previous and current web practices. in a bridging sort of way.
This is just a question for everyone: I wonder why (in this thead) we are thinking about regional differences in terms of internet art temperaments? Not everyone who works on the internet even talks to each other or gets together in real life to share about what they enjoy making. What's the correlation between locality and interest? Aren't we influenced by a web on a global/intersectional level?

let me specify when I said the peergroup was small I mean the particular community from NY+Chicago+Europe that huddles around Rhizome+facebook+tumblr in a "postinternet" way...
