Media artist, musician and engineer of “strange sounding mechanisms” Dmitry Morozov, ::vtol:: is in town next week! He’ll be speaking on Monday Oct 27th at 8 PM at Catalyze Chicago, and performing at Tritriangle on Tuesday Oct 28 at 8 PM at 1550 N. Milwaukee 3/F. If you’re not familiar with his work we recommend you check out http://vtol.cc/ !!!

::vtol:: is the project of Dmitry Morozov, Moscow media artist, musician and engineer of strange sounding mechanisms. In the mid 00s Dmitry started to use actively his DIY and Circuit Bent instruments for his own music projects, as well as making instruments for other musicians and media artists. He is the first batch producer of music and video synthesizers at the post-Soviet area. Besides making music and instruments, Dmitry creates audiovisual art installations and promotes Circuit Bending and DIY Electronics in Russia by means of lectures and workshops.

Cower brief mortals! Dorkbot Chicago is BACK!

After a long hiatus, Dorkbot Chicago is back in action. We’ll be using Catalyze Chicago (www.catalyzechicago.org) as our base of operations, and have an exciting lineup of talks / workshops. First and foremost, Nick Briz will be giving an artist talk.

The main goals of dorkbot are: to create an informal, friendly environment in which people can talk about the work they're doing and to foster discussion about that work; to help bring together people from different backgrounds who are interested in similar things; to give us all an opportunity to see the strange things our neighbors are doing with electricity. dorkbot isn't really a forum for formal artist talks or lectures, but rather a chance for diverse people to have friendly conversations about interesting ideas.

Thursday Oct 23 7pm
Catalyze Chicago
650 W Lake St.
Suite #220 Chicago IL, 60661

I for one prefer semantic and clean, "pretty" URLs. -_-

The video does an interesting pun-play on the phonetics of "ai" which people predominantly associate with love in the first main tone (there are four tones for a word in Chinese, each would mean a different character with a vastly different meaning)

As we hear "cancer baby" she flashes the Chinese character for "love" (愛) (ai) with one for "cancer" (癌) (ái) (at the end. "love/love/love/ love/ cancer!" In an interview she said she was trying to make cancer cute.

Check out the UTERUS MAN video by the way. I believe that is her sci fi magnum opus.
