Jean-Luc Soret is a photography and new media art curator at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris. He is member of the curatorial team of the European Month of Photography network gathering institutions from Moscow, Bratislava, Vienna, Berlin, Luxembourg, Rome and Paris. He is the artistic director and co-founder of the @rt Outsiders International Festival which he set up in 2000 at the MEP ; this annual show devoted to works at the intersection of the arts, sciences, and technology has highlighted differents themes : Digital Image (2000), Avatar (2001), Bio Art and Artificial Intelligence (2002), Space Art (2003), Censorship (2004), New Media Art in Brazil (2005), Electromagnetic Bodies (2006), Invisible Territories - art and nanotechnology (2007), Interpolar Art - art in Arctic and Antarctic (2008), (Un)Inhabitable ? The art of extreme environments (2009). He’s collaborated on the multimedia stage management of Marcel Landowski’s opera « The Fool », produced by the Théâtre du Châtelet (2004). He taught at Paris the University of Panthéon/Sorbonne and at the University of Versailles, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Member of the MIR european consortium (Microgravity Interdisciplinary Research), of the Advisory Commitee of Leonardo/Olats (Fr), of the Leonardo Space Art Working Group (Usa) and of the Zero Gravity Arts Consortium (Usa), he also collaborates with the Laboratoire de l’Espace of the CNES (French government agency responsible for shaping and implementing France’s space policy in Europe) till 2006 for the promotion of Space Art.
